Edinburgh Identified as Leading European Tech Hub

Titans of Tech: Edinburgh Named European Tech Hotspot

Investment and advisory firm GP Bullhound brings Titans of Tech and Northern Tech Awards to the capital.

Edinburgh’s position as a leader in the global digital technology sector was confirmed today when GP Bullhound, the investment and advisory company, announced that the capital is one of it’s European tech hub hotspots.

In addition GP Bullhound has announced that the 2018 Northern Tech Awards will take place in Edinburgh for the first time, on 22 March 2018.  The awards have previously been held in Manchester (2014), Leeds (2015), Liverpool (2016) and Newcastle (2017).

The Northern Tech Awards are held in association with GP Bullhound’s annual Top 100 league table of fastest growing technology companies in the north of England, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

The company is launching it’s latest report, Titans of Tech: Europe’s Flagship Companies at an event in the city centre next week. The report investigates Europe’s flagship tech companies and asks how Europe’s cohort of billion-dollar businesses are performing in the current market conditions. The report goes on to ask if  European tech companies can reach a $50 billion valuation and explores what sets the most successful entrepreneurs apart?

Following Chinese travel giant Ctrip’s £1.4 billion acquisition of Edinburgh-based Skyscanner in November 2016 and with a growing number of European funds targeting tech startups and scale-ups, GP Bullhound’s Managing Partner, Hugh Campbell, anticipates increasing investor appetite for Scottish technology companies in 2018 and beyond.

Hugh Campbell said: “I attended the Engage Invest Exploit (EIE) investor conference in Edinburgh in May 2017 and it’s noticeable how the tech scene in Scotland has developed since then, highlighted by the Skyscanner exit.

“While it can be hard for UK technology hubs outside London to build profile in international terms, recent investor activity has illustrated that more funds are training their eye on Scotland for investment opportunities.  And at the earlier stage of the investment cycle, it’s still the case that Scotland has one of the most developed and sophisticated angel networks in Europe.”

Registrations for the Titans of Tech launch event can be booked online.
