Special Edition Delegates 2016. Diversity

TRC Media has announced the delegates for the 2017 Special Edition, a professional development programme which aims to put more women in Scotland’s digital technology sector in the boardroom.

The six month Special Edition programme offers a combination of professional development, training and exposure to creative and business expertise.

The goal is to help participants improve their entrepreneurial skills, build their business networks and progress their careers into more senior and executive positions.

With women currently representing only 18% of the workforce in Scotland’s technology sector, Special Edition is a valuable addition to the industry.

Danae Shell, Head Of Awareness for FinTech leader FreeAgent, one of the 2016 delegates, said: “Special Edition  completely changed the way that I looked at my career — I went in to the programme thinking that I might want to get to Marketing Director, and I came out knowing that I wanted to be a CEO.  I feel so much more confident with my own ambition and abilities, especially after meeting so many other incredible women and seeing their own journeys to success.  The most special part is the network you build with your fellow delegates – I can now rely on an incredible group of women for professional support and collaboration.”

Searra told us: “I’m incredibly excited, moved and honoured to join this years talented lineup. Special Edition is a fantastic opportunity to develop my professional skills and business acumen. As well as giving me the confidence to reach for and achieve the aspirations I have for Jukebox Labs.

“The course will directly impact how we are able to develop Jukebox Labs as a brand new start up and it’s incredibly exciting to have the support of TRC and the program.

“I look forward meeting and working with such an inspiring group of women.”

Claire Scally and Margaret Scott, Joint Managing Directors of TRCmedia say:

“The exceptionally high calibre of applications received from women working across the digital and technology sectors in Scotland is a clear indication of the wealth of talent within the industry.

Unfortunately, women are still under-represented in senior positions in digital businesses. Special Edition was devised with this in mind and tackles many of the issues women come up against in their career progression in this sector. We are delighted to announce our 2017 delegates and look forward to supporting them over the next six months and throughout their career progression.”

Louisa Gallie Special Edition 2014Louisa Gallie, Senior Artist at games studio Hunted Cow, went through the 2014 programme, agrees: “Special Edition was nine days that completely changed how I tackle my life and career. It changed how I think about problems, how I react to challenges, and how I plan my future. I applied for the course because I felt bored and stuck in a rut. I can safely say I haven’t been bored for one moment since.

“I have a completely new sense of optimism about what I’m capable of and what my future can be.”

Special Edition launches in August with the first of five sessions, covering topics ranging from professional and personal goal setting to pitching with confidence. The programme also includes two field trips to visit digital centres of excellence in London and Amsterdam.
