Semi-finalists for the Impact Summit Competition, a new international competition for purpose-driven businesses, have been unveiled today.
Scottish startups SolarisKit and LiberEat are among the final few contestants, event organisers FutureX revealed, and will compete for a place in the grand final held in May.
The Impact Summit competition showcases startups that are “changing the world for the better,” through their positive impact on the people, communities or environment around them.
More than 100 startups applied to take part in the competition, which FutureX says showcases the “continued growth of sustainable, ethical businesses not just here in Scotland, but across the world”.
The competition acts as a pathway to Silicon Valley, with winners given a fully-funded place on FutureX’s Silicon Valley programme and more than £20,000 of business support.
Dundee-based startup SolarisKit, founded by Dr Faisal Ghani, is the world’s first flat-packable solar thermal collector, while Aberdeen based LiberEat, founded by Barry Leaper, is an app which makes life safer and easier for those with dietary requirements such as food allergies, intolerances and medical conditions.
Both firms are joined in the semi-final, which takes place on March 29th and 30th, by startups from Argentina, Germany, Jordan, Nigeria, Denmark, Luxembourg and Wales.
The final of the competition will take place at Impact Summit on May 19th and 20th in front of over 1,000 virtual attendees.
