Scottish Enterprise Announces New Chief Executive

Steve Dunlop

Steve Dunlop will take over role of Chief Executive from predecessor Lena Wilson next month.

Steve Dunlop has been chosen to take over from Lena Wilson, who announced her departure last month after nearly eight years at the helm. Dunlop’s appointment has been hailed as the start of a new era for the economic development agency. Scottish Enterprise will benefit from Dunlop’s extensive experience in public sector leadership roles, his track record of driving inclusive economic growth and his proven industry expertise.

For the last 12 years Dunlop has been a dynamic driving force behind the transformation of Scotland’s canals, which has acted as a catalyst for economic and social regeneration. Prior to that, he held the position Director of Regeneration for Newcastle City Council and Director of Community Services for Falkirk Council.

Dunlop said: “There has never been a more important time to help Scottish businesses grow and internationalise. At Scottish Enterprise, I look forward to collaborating with other public bodies, the private sector and our world-class academic institutions to help optimise our talent, resources and ambition in ways that genuinely benefit Scotland.”

Time for a New Direction

Economy Minister Keith Brown said of the appointment: “Steve is a talented leader with a fantastic ability to bring people, partners and stakeholders with him in driving meaningful and sustainable change.”

“He is one of the most passionate and entrepreneurial leaders we have in Scotland and I am delighted he has accepted the role to lead Scottish Enterprise working in close collaboration with national and local partners to deliver a more joined up economic development system across Scotland.”
