Cyber Scotland Week

Cyber Scotland Week will bring together innovation and learning across the cyber resilience landscape in Scotland.

ScotlandIS has revealed it will collaborate with the Scottish Government to host Cyber Scotland Week in April 2019.

As the first event of its kind for Scotland, Cyber Scotland Week will bring together events across the country to showcase some of the finest innovation taking place across the cybersecurity sector.

The event will also aim to raise awareness of some of the key cybersecurity issues and trends, promoting good cyber resilience and promoting careers in the industry.

Experts, influencers and the next generation of talent, ScotlandIS announced, will explore and learn about the rapidly-changing threat landscape.

With a vibrant cybersecurity cluster located in Scotland – more than 90 companies operate in the sector – the event will draw upon the intelligence, expertise and innovation that continues to boost Scotland’s reputation as a cybersecurity hub.

During Cyber Scotland Week there will be a range of events scattered throughout the country aimed at engaging schools, businesses and people within the industry with a series of conferences, meetups and events.

Some of these will be led by ScotlandIS, Quorum Cyber and BSides Scotland. Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Skills Development Scotland and the College Development Network will also lead the way with a series of events for the public sector, academia and the general public.

The organisation said that further events and speakers will be announced in the coming months.

Deputy First Minister John Swinney commented: “I am pleased to announce the first ever Cyber Scotland Week, which will see people of all ages and backgrounds come together to share and collaborate on how to become more cyber-resilient.

“As a society, we are becoming increasingly reliant on digital technology so it is vital that we are able to manage the cyber threats that come with this.

“The cybersecurity industry is an important contributor to our economic growth and Cyber Scotland Week is the perfect opportunity to showcase the innovative and exciting work that is happening across the sector.”

Flagship Cyber Event

One of the main events taking place during Cyber Scotland Week is the UK Government’s flagship cyber event, CYBERUK 2019, which will take place for the first time at Glasgow’s SECC on 24th and 25th April.

CYBERUK 2019 will bring together international cyber intelligence and security experts, offering a platform for business leaders to learn how to protect and secure their organisations’ information, finances and reputation in an ever-changing, increasingly perilous cybersecurity landscape.
