Edinburgh Napier Launches Fintech Masters Degree

As the impact of technology on the financial services continues to grow, Edinburgh Napier University’s schools of business and computing are collaborating to introduce a new Masters degree in fintech.

Edinburgh Napier University is bringing together the Schools of Computing and Business to launch a new, dedicated Masters degree in Financial technology, aka ‘fintech’

The new MSc will draw content from both schools, offering a new opportunity for anyone with a background in maths, computing or finance, or indeed professional work experience within the industry.

Students will study subjects including financial management, data wrangling, identity service, fraud and transnational financial crime, to equip themselves with knowledge of banking, cybersecurity and other sectors, in order to develop their technical awareness in the financial industries.

The course will enable students to develop a deep understanding of the complexity of international financial markets, banking and money transfer systems and find out how these are being fundamentally transformed by innovations in financial technology, leading them to potential careers in banks, financial institutions, regulatory agencies and beyond.Students will be able to choose between a focus on finance or technology for their disertation.

Gail Boag, the Dean of Edinburgh Napier’s Business School, said:

“Fintech has evolved to disrupt and reshape commerce and in particular financial services, gaining significant momentum. We are well placed to support this growing digital sector in Scotland combining expertise in finance and computing with practice and application.”

David Potter, the Fintech programme leader at Edinburgh Napier, said:

Peter Cruickshank, director of Postgraduate Programmes at Edinburgh Napier’s School of Computing, said:

“This is a great example of how our university is responding to the convergence of finance and technology, and will equip students with the technical and data skills which are becoming essential for a career in finance.”
