The games development startup has launched a crowdfunding campaign to advance their latest game ‘Great Artists Steal’.

The founders of Glasgow-based Handprint Games, Jamie Yacoubian and Gary Fallon, are looking to raise £15,000 to fund the development of their new computer game ‘Great Artists Steal’.

The pair are collaborating with artist SCR1BBLE, who has already contributed 50 hand-drawn visual assets which have been added to the game.

The company says the funds will be used to create a testable MVP and to complete the game’s development. The plan is to initially release the game on Steam (Windows, Mac & Linux), with the possibility of a Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One release in the future.

On the company’s Kickstarter page, the game is described as a “hand-drawn platformer” in which gamers try and steal famous paintings in a “2-dimensional scribbled world” armed with a giant fountain pen to fend off attackers.

Mr Yacoubian said: “We have learned the hard way that good ideas are only half the battle in the gaming sector. It’s one thing generating interest from investors, but the real competition is in the practical mechanics of gaming.

“We have gone on to learn valuable lessons from the experience, and we have put together a fantastic team of entrepreneurial Scottish game makers who are working solidly as a team developing new games new ideas and new creative thinking”.

According to the company’s Kickstarter page, the project has raised £8,126 of its goal. Backers can donate as little as £1 or as much as £500 or more.

Depending on the amount pledged, investors can receive rewards such as a custom portrait by SCR1BBLE, or for top tier investors they can work closely with the Handprint team to design a level within the game.

Handprint has developed other games, including 3Reality and Punch Perfect and hopes to make the company a creative hub for the UK gaming industry.
