CodeClan Launches Data Analysis Course to Meet Data Skills Demand
The 14-week course has been launched in response to the growing demand for data skills across Scotland.
Digital skills academy CodeClan has launched an immersive data analysis course, and is inviting prospective students and employers to join them on the new venture.
The course has been developed in response to the rapid rise in demand for data professionals across Scotland’s digital technology sector, will offer a “unique opportunity” for career changers to develop highly sought-after skills and enable organisations to up-skill existing employees into data-focused roles.
As part of the course development, CodeClan has created a survey for industry, inviting companies across Scotland to help shape aspects of the content, delivery and business focus.
The 14-week course will start in June and will be modelled on the success of the organisations’ Professional Software Development (PSD) course.
Since October 2015, the PSD course has seen more than 600 people graduate with skills in web and software development, and 490 of these have gone on to join organisations across a host of sectors.
CodeClan said the Data Analysis course will give its graduates the ability to lead data-driven decision making and to gain skills that will help “turbo-charge” organisational growth.
The course offers skills outcomes that include:
- Skills, knowledge and best practices to become a professional data analyst
- Consolidating, presenting and modelling data
- Communicating information that drives business decisions and actions
- Understanding forecasting, competitor analysis and probability
- Telling a story through the visualisation of data
- Working with real-world datasets and problems
- Career transition support
Professionals already working with data, who need to become more effective at manipulating, cleaning, segmenting and visualising data to produce actionable outcomes will also benefit from the course, CodeClan said.
Commenting on the announcement, CodeClan CEO Melinda Matthews-Clarkson said: “Data analysis is transforming organisations across Scotland. Whether you work in management, marketing, product development, operations or customer services, data is now fundamental to the success of businesses.
“We’ve developed this course in response to demand from industry and in collaboration with data science experts, including The Data Lab and Effini. It covers all of the foundational skills required to work effectively with data across all business sectors.”

Matthews-Clarkson added that rapid evolution across a number of industries makes courses such as this essential to up-skill employees and maintain a robust economy.
She said: “Data analysis is in high demand and employers are crying out for talent. We need to upskill faster in order to respond to the growing demand for skills and the speed at which demand is growing. With the rise in automation, more than 46% of jobs in Scotland (1.2 million) are at threat.
“If we can retrain and up-skill people with new data analysis skills to prevent redundancy we have a win-win situation.”
